Never considered myself a gamer, and I honestly haven't played too many games, but the ones I liked, I truly enjoyed. The ones on this list aren't necessarily the "best," but they're my favorites. Also, I'm sticking to a one per franchise rule of sorts. I won't include multiple entries in the same series, but spin off series games can be included as long as they aren't part of the same numbered franchise. Because of that, the list isn't exactly completely accurate, but it wouldn't be as much fun if it was. Anyway, here's the list.

First, here are a few games that came really close to making it.

Honorable Mentions

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (Probably would have made the list if not for how glitchy it was)

Grand Theft Auto V (It's open world was incredible. But playing as the bad guy left me with a bad taste in my mouth.)

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (Probably my favorite fighting game.)

Rolling Thunder (Sooooooooooo many memories.)

Wii Sports Resort (Again, playing this game with my siblings was great. Brings back some wonderful memories. That's why it gets a mention.)

And now... for the list.

Top Ten

Super Mario Bros. (Super Nintendo)

Starting off the list is a game I had for the Super Nintendo back in the day. The remastered version, actually. I'm not even sure I ever actually beat it. Probably not. But the enjoyment it gave me was undeniable. Not only that, but it probably introduced me to gaming. If I played a video game before this one, I don't remember it, and that's what guarantees this game a spot on my list.

This game ends up on the list because of nostalgia, mostly. I spent hours upon hours as a kid with my Game Boy trying to get to the end of this game. As young as I was, it took me years, but it was definitely the most rewarding experience I ever got from beating a game. Some of my favorite memories from gaming comes from this forgotten treasure.
Number 8- Goldeneye (Nintendo 64)

Alright, now we've gotten nostalgia out of the way, and we're into the meat of the list. Who didn't lose a few friends over this game? Over who got to play as Bond or whether or not to allow rocket launchers? In my humble opinion, this had the best split screen multiplayer ever and a decent single player campaign to boot. Even if the AI was shoddy and no one knew what the plot even was. Definitely my favorite first person shooter.

Number 7- Dead Space 2 (PlayStation 3)

The first one was a pretty good game, but it's the sequel that made strategically dismembering aliens something that's truly a great time. Eliminating the backtracking and zero gravity problems from the first, and adding more puzzles to solve, missions with a lot of variety, as well as characters that are actually worth remembering. It also quite possibly has the best ending in any video game. The best survival horror game... ever.

There was a time when I called this my favorite game. The sheer size of it is simply remarkable. There are a ton of maps to play on, and each map is detailed and fun to fight in. No, the AI isn't perfect, but the mechanics are basically flawless. You also get a real glimpse into what it's like to be a completely dispensable soldier in a war on a galactic scale. It's not only one of my very favorite shooters, but also a great addition to the Star Wars canon.

Number 5- Mario Kart: DS

Okay, maybe I lied, and we aren't through with nostalgia just yet. I moved on to a DS after my Game Boy, and this was one of the games I played the most... I was always Yoshi. Consistently entertaining maps and fun characters always made Mario Kart a hit, but I still think this handheld version is the best one we've ever gotten. The inclusion of items is pretty much essential for me with racing games, so this is definitely my favorite of the genre.

Number 4- Spider-Man 2 (PS2)

This is another game I once called my favorite. The first one was fun, but the introduction of an open world that blew my mind, and making webs actually stick to buildings when swinging, were not only revolutionary to Spider-Man games, but to gaming in general. Why Spider-Man games can't follow this blueprint any more, I will never understand. I spent countless hours doing repetitive missions and just swinging around. Which puts a terrific story mode on the back burner. Definitely my favorite movie game, and my favorite open world ever.

Number 3- Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3)

Arkham City easily could have taken this spot. Very easily. Objectively, it's probably the better of the games. But its open world never really captivated me, and in my opinion, Arkham Asylum may very well be the greatest Batman story ever told. It has gadgets, it has combat that's a ton of fun, the best stealth system in any game, and a dreadful atmosphere that always keeps you on your toes. Along with a voice cast that would make any nerd ecstatic, and unrivaled character designs, Arkham Asylum remains my favorite Superhero game.

I don't think I've ever played a perfect game, but The Last of Us may be the closest thing I've seen. Possibly the best graphics of the seventh generation, and stellar gameplay. The combat is strategic and intense, and the down time is always full of places to explore, things to see, and puzzles to solve. Not only that, but it has the perfect AI in both the humans and Zombies. It's also a great piece of storytelling. Filled with memorable characters, and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This game probably could have secured the number one spot, if not for the lackluster ending.

Number 1- Mass Effect 3 (PS3)

My three favorite games are the Mass Effect games. So choosing one was no easy task. The second has what is probably the best final mission in video game history, and it's characters are wonderful, but the third affected me emotionally in a way no other game has done. Reuniting with your friends from the first game gives you the best sense of nostalgia, and the decisions you have to make are some of the biggest and most impactful of the series. The gameplay is a ton of fun, but what really makes this game my favorite, is the character that I get to shape. I get to step outside my world for a moment and live as a hero in a galaxy that's like our own, but even more fantastic. I guess that's the best part about video games. The ability to leave this world for a short time, and join any other one you want. And, in my humble opinion, Mass Effect 3 does that better than any other.

That's it! But it's true that the list isn't perfect. So, here are a few games that would have made the list if not for the franchise rule.
I kinda want to, but I just don't have the time. Also, I really want to focus my site on the movies. TV shows are great, but movies are really where my passion lies. But, caring about Superheroes like I do, here's what I think of the show so far.

My favorite part of the show, by far, is the characters. They're just awesome. Each and every character is relatable, and likable. And I love that about this show.

So far the stories have been pretty interesting, and the special effects decent, and of course the writing is spectacular. But I just can't get my mind off of those characters. And by the way, those girls are HOT. Just saying.

This was a quick post, but it's really just a way of me telling you guys that you NEED to watch this show. It's awesome, and if you liked the Avengers, you'll love this almost as much. Take the time, turn on your TV, and watch this show. Seriously... what are you still doing here? Go! Watch the show!Tristan Lanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17216750468965752348noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7634369430081059357.post-69527927012471882232013-09-28T15:17:00.001-07:002013-09-28T15:17:53.516-07:00Requests? I was brainstorming as to what movie I wanted to retro review next, but I'm stuck. I could review one of my favorite movies again, but I feel like you guys are probably tired of seeing me review movies with only good things to say. So, anyone want to see me review your favorite movie? There's always a chance I haven't seen it, but I want to leave what movie I review up to chance. That way you guys don't know if I liked it or not. So just let me know in the comments what movie you want reviewed, and I'll do my best.

Thanks, guys.Tristan Lanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17216750468965752348noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7634369430081059357.post-71597566639018362192013-09-21T20:15:00.002-07:002013-09-21T20:28:38.608-07:00Retro Review: Resident Evil

Guys, it's been a while. I took a bit of time off of reviewing for some personal reasons, but now, I'm back!
Anyway, There aren't any new Superhero movies coming out until November, and news has been rather slow, so I thought I'd review a movie I just watched the other night. The video game adaptation, Resident Evil. Enjoy the review, guys.

So, this girl named Alice (Milla Jovovich) wakes up with no memory whatsoever. She's told she works for this company that's basically taken over the world. (So, just imagine Apple.) Anyway, they lost contact with one of this company's science lab, and they're sending Alice, along with a few other tough guys, to find out why. And sorry if this surprises you, but they find no survivors, and an underground facility completely overrun by zombies. Lovely.

First of all, Milla Jovovich is hot. That is all.

Second, something someone must keep in mind while watching a movie like this is that the movie is based off a video game. And in my opinion, we have only had one movie to actually be an intentionally good video game adaptation. That was Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, but we won't go into that right now. Almost every video game adaptation isn't really meant to be a good movie. It's made to make money off of the fans of the game. It's made to please them, but not necessarily anyone else. That fact helps one to maybe enjoy the movie just a bit more knowing that it's not supposed to be perfect. But that being said, I'm going to try to be completely objective.

First, let's talk about character development... there wasn't any. Not only that, but none of the characters were very interesting. The most interesting character was certainly Alice, but even she was rather boring. Great to look at, but boring. We do get a bit of her background as time goes on, but it's rather anticlimactic and pretty uneventful. The other fairly interesting character is Rain (Michelle Rodriguez). She had a really cool tough-as-nails personality that was actually pretty cool to see. Rodriguez also seemed to be the best actress in the movie. Either that or she was the only one that actually cared. Both scenarios are possible.

This movie was... gory. I'm not a fan of gory movies, mostly because I usually find them rather unrealistic. The only one I've ever seen that could pull this off was Robocop, but even then I felt like it was overdone. Lasers slice people in half, elevators fall on people, zombies eat people... it doesn't really end. And while I'm not exactly a fan, I do understand that this movie was made for that kind of audience, so I'm not going to be overly critical. And while this movie was gory, it didn't really rely on the gore for many of its scares. And I actually feel like most of them were pretty legit. All in all, this movie had some good scares, and didn't rely on the gore (that statement is actually really funny when you think of Al Gore...) to deliver them.

I must also compliment this movie on it's use of zombies. I liked them. Well designed, and a nice mix of what classic and new zombies should look and act like. That, coupled with the well directed action sequences, were definitely the best part about this movie. It was great to look at. Of course, you guys know me well enough by now, to know that I believe that great special effects and action is no substitute for good acting and writing, but I must admit that this movie knew what it was doing when it came to its aesthetic.

Speaking of story, did this movie even have one? Like, I tried to follow it, I really did, but about half way through this movie I realized it was pointless. This movie wasn't made to make you think, so I tried not to. And while this movie could have been ten times better had it had a better story, they chose effect over affect. Almost never a good choice.

On one hand, I want to say that this movie does what it's supposed to do, simply because it does. But on the other, I know that this movie really wasn't very good. If you're in the mood for this movie, you might enjoy it. If not, it's probably a waste of time. The writing is bad, the acting is mediocre, and while the look of the movie is impressive, it can't make up for the simply ridiculous plot.

Final Score: 2/5 or 40%

Are you a fan of gory movies? Or do they make you sick to the stomach? Let me know in the comments, and I'll see ya next time!

Also, Milla Jovovich is hot.
This time I'll be reviewing a cult classic, Ridley Scott's Alien. People love this movie now, but it's interesting because originally, people didn't know what to think of it. That being said, that makes it hard for me to be objective, but I'll try my very best to give you my opinion of Alien as a movie, and not as a fan favorite.

A distant space ship filled with scientists is taken out of a long term sleep on their way back to Earth to answer a distress call. They board the abandoned ship to find nothing. Nothing but some eggs. But when one of them hatches, and latches itself onto one of the scientists, all hell breaks loose. An alien ends up loose on the ship, and it begins taking out the crew one by one. Can any of them survive? No spoilers here, so I won't tell you. What I will tell you, however, is just how good this movie was.

First of all, the story is intriguing, but it's a formula that's been done. That's not to say the movie's not original, because it certainly is, but doesn't change up the horror movie formula. Now, that being said, I loved the vision behind the story. It's completely intriguing and compelling, and I loved that. The formula may have been reused, but everything else was brand new. There's no question that this movie was one of a kind.

Why people love Ridley so much, I will never understand. He's a good director, but is he great? Yes, he is. I will never understand why we like him, but we do. He knows how to direct a horror movie, and he does it right. Even with the limited special effects of the time, he brings us something truly terrifying, and mind boggling. The movie leaves you confused, but excited. Too many unanswered questions, but exhilarated enough to make you come back. (Not unlike Women.) You couldn't ask for more from a director.

The writing works well too. I love the dialogue between the crew members. It's honestly fascinating. There's not much more to say about the writing, only that it's spot on.

The characters, though, are what really make this movie. The characters, and their actors. Every time we hear a line, we listen for the next one. Whenever we hear a speech, (and there are quite a few) we hang on to every word. We get attached to these characters, and we even get depressed when some of them are killed. The one that stands out to people everywhere is Ellen Ripley, played by the incredible Sigourney Weaver. Not only does she have an awesome name, but she was one of the best actors of the time, and that still holds true to this day. Any one can relate to her character. Young or old, man or woman, she's just classic.

I also just wanted to mention that I loved the character of Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt). He really captured the character of a leader out of his element. A brave man, but a scared one. You don't get much more relatable than that. A great character indeed.

This movie is dark. For once, I loved that. Not only is the movie dark, it's scary. It was made in 1979, but it's still scary. The Chestburster scene is still one of the scariest movie scenes of all time. Not only that, but the Alien itself is scary. It was wonderfully designed, and gave an awesome set up for the next movie.

I must get the bad things out of the way now. The biggest problem is that this movie can be SLOW. Seeing some of the dialogue makes up for most of it, but when we're just getting shots of equipment for five minutes... it gets old, and I start to tune out. When this movie gets going, it's great. But it does take a while before it gets going. Honestly, Ridley? What was the idea there? "I think I'm gonna show some chairs and helmets for a good part of the movie, then I'm gonna slowly get the movie up to speed." ...Wut?

I love Alien with all my heart. But I'm not above saying the slow parts are slow. Some argue that the slow scenes are necessary for the build up. If it is, then fine, but it's not my style. Everything else, though, was pretty close to perfect. I'm not sure there's a better horror movie out there (unless we're counting Jaws) than Alien. It's scary, it's well written, and it's timeless. You just can't ask for more than that. I was willing to look past the slow scenes, and see an awesome movie. Well done, Scott.

Final Score: 4.5/5 or 90%

In case you haven't heard already, Ben Affleck was recently cast as Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel.

I was honestly surprised by this. I'm not sure if it's in a good or bad way, but oh well. I mean, I like Affleck. He's a great actor and an even better director. I should be more excited about this than I am. He's good at what he does, and I think he'll make a good Batman. I mean, he's good enough for Jennifer Garner. Just saying.

Not only is he a good actor, but he's already proven that he knows how to play a tortured soul. His role in Daredevil was actually very impressive. And certainly very Batman like. I think if he can repeat that, we'll have a great version of the caped crusader for sure.

He also looks the part. Not much to say there, but I can see him as Bruce Wayne. The real question, is can he PLAY Bruce Wayne. I think he's a good enough actor to do that, but we won't know for sure until 2015 roles around.

And finally, Affleck is a much better director than he is actor, even. I think he could really help add to the visual aspect of this film in some great ways. I know he's not the director, but you never know what kind of things he might interject into the film making process.

No, I wasn't the biggest fan of Man of Steel. I liked it, but the overall dark, uninspired and cluttered tone really left me feeling like it should have been better. I don't know if this movie will be better, but I'm certainly hoping. But what about you guys? Do you think the introduction of Batman is a positive spin? Will the next movie be better? Let me know in the comments, and I'll see ya next time!Tristan Lanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17216750468965752348noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7634369430081059357.post-1172970828382382662013-08-22T17:02:00.000-07:002013-08-22T17:02:03.986-07:00News: Is Elizabeth Olsen the Scarlet Witch?

It now appears that Elizabeth Olsen is the new front runner to play the Scarlet Witch in the upcoming Avengers sequel. Alrighty then.

I know... nothing about this woman Well.. I know that she was born in 1987, and that she's the youngest of the Olsen sisters. But as for her work in movies, I don't think I've ever seen her in one. I mean, she's attractive, and she looks like she could pull off the part, I just hope she can handle the acting required for her to be in a MCU film. I just don't know.

In the end, adding magic and this character to the Marvel movies is a huge step. One that could make, or break them. I a way, her character is essential to the success of this new movie. She MUST know what she's doing, and take this role seriously. Not only that, but she must have the right kind of chemistry with Aaron Taylor-Johnson. That's gonna be important.

There probably aren't that many Scarlet Witch fans out there other than me, but do it for us? Please? If nothing else, do it for those who are looking forward to the next installment of one of the most successful movie franchises of all time.
A huge success, there was no way that James Cameron was going to pass on creating a sequel to his darkand gritty sci-fi film, The Terminator. After the way 1984 changed cinema forever, it was time to take it to the next level. Now backed by Hollywood, and of course, by the same visionary that conceived the first film, T-2 brings about the next chapter in the Terminator story. He said he'd be back, and now, he is. Let's get started, shall we?

Our story picks up ten years after the events of The Terminator. Sarah Connor was put into a mental institution, and is now a warrior. She's no longer that innocent girl we saw in the first movie, she's ready to do whatever it takes to defend her son, and make sure he becomes the great warrior she was told he would.

John Connor (Ed Furlong) is under the impression that his mother is crazy, and he's living with foster parents. He's not exactly a model citizen, but who can blame him? He's lived his whole life thinking something special about himself, but now, his life is a lie... or is it?

The first time around, the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) didn't succeed in his mission to destroy Sarah. So now, Skynet has sent back a new model, the T-1000 (Robert Patrick), made of liquid metal to destroy John. Just like last time, the Resistance sent a protector. But this time, it was a Terminator itself. The T-800 (Schwarzenegger).
There are way too many things to talk about, because of how much I love this movie. I can't possibly get to all of it, so I'll try to keep it simple. But trust me, if I don't mention it, odds are, I loved it.

The characters are great, each and every one of them. John is this bad mouthed kid who doesn't really like anybody. He's a rebel, basically. A good heart, but gets into trouble a bit too often. I love his character, and I loved his story. Sarah has become a soldier. She's completely different that how she was when we last saw her. And honestly, her character is even more interesting now. There's no denying the complete badass of Sarah Connor.

And of course, there's The Terminator. He's one of my favorite movie characters of all time, and seeing him as a good guy in this movie was just perfect. His writing was amazing, and seeing the main three characters interact was just beautiful. John was a smart ass, Sarah was a warrior, and the Terminator had one job.

Robert Patrick was amazing as the new Terminator. He didn't talk much, but his body language said more than even words. Just as brutal and cold as the first one, but now, even more deadly.

Even though created more than twenty years ago, the action sequences are just as incredible and breathtaking today. I'm particularly fond of the asylum break out scene. That scene has some great action, hilarious humor, and great writing. My other favorite scene is the one at the steel mill. The first reason, is for the exhilarating action, and wonderful acting. The second reason... I'll get to in a moment.

Sarah Connor decides to become a Terminator herself and destroy the man responsible for the creation of Skynet, Miles Dyson (Joe Morton). Joe Morton is awesome, but beyond that, his character was really cool. Once again, his interaction with the cast was very fun to watch. And seeing Sarah Connor come to the understanding that it wasn't right to kill him was a great moral lesson of the movie.

This paragraph contains some spoilers, so be careful before you read.
Our once merciless Terminator, is now a lovable father toward John. He's his protector, and friend, so it's really difficult to watch when he says to avoid the future they have been fighting against, he must be destroyed. The Terminator looks at John and tells him, "I know now why you cry, but it is something I can never do." It's heartbreaking to see him get lowered into the molten steel. John's protector, and the closest thing to a father he'll ever get. And that's what makes this movie more than just a summer blockbuster. It has a real heart, and a real hero. One of the best ever to see the big screen.
I'm not usually very secretive that this is one of my top three favorite movies. I can find nothing wrong with it. It has heart, action, great writing, direction and characters. The actors are amazing, and the story just as good. But most of all, this movie has magic. More than I'm used to seeing. And that's why it's one of my favorite movies. It simply has it all. On top of all those things, it has a message. One that's not forced, not cheesy, simply true. "If a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life... maybe we can too."

In 1984, James Cameron brought us the beginning of one of the most endearing cinema franchises of all time. Not many people know how low budget this movie was. It wasn't supposed to be a hit, but it was huge. Still one of the most infamous characters of all time, and still influencing Sci-Fi movies to this day. But... was it really that good? Is it really worth being declared one of the greatest Sci-Fi movies of all time? Maybe. Read on to see my opinion.

This movie was written and directed by James Cameron. He's one of the greatest writers of all time, and certainly one of the best directors. He comes up with some great stories, and this movie is no exception. The Terminator is one of the most creative movie stories ever. No question.

Our story starts off in the future. In the year 2017, a nuclear arose. technology became self aware, and when humans tried to pull the plug, the machines struck back. Humans are resilient, though. And when some survived, a war broke out between men, and machines. Man, versus Terminator. Machines that look like ordinary men, but feel no pain. They are extremely hard to kill, and more powerful than any man. The resistance fighting the machines, is led by John Connor. He's winning. The humans are winning. So, the machines have an ace of up their sleeve. They send one of the Terminators (Arnold Schwarzenegger) back in time, to kill John's mother, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). But the humans have sent a protector, Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), to her aide.

Great story, and great direction for sure. But the actors make this movie even better. Michael Biehn is great in everything, but this is his best role for sure. He's one of my favorite action movie stars, and he's perfect for this role. I really enjoyed his character.

Sarah Connor was also a cool character. She was pulled into a world she didn't understand, and I think she handled it in a believable way. Not that this movie is down to earth, but it's believable. You completely understand why things happen in a certain way, and you can completely relate to it. I really liked that aspect of the movie, and it helps make something out of this world, something you can believe.

Of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger is in this movie. He was awesome. The Terminator was fun to watch, but cold and lifeless. A great villain that endures to this day. This movie is dark. Very dark. It's almost hard to watch at points because the movie is so violent, and bloody. There's no remorse, no humility, just senseless violence. The Terminator has one task. And it won't stop, it won't rest, it won't sleep until that job is done. Brutal executions are brutal, and they make this movie extremely dark. I'm not the biggest fan of dark movies, but I think it worked pretty well for this movie. I don't think it could have worked in any other way.

There's a love story in this movie. To avoid spoilers, I won't tell you who it's with, but the love story is probably the weakest part of the film. Any one can relate to the man involved, and I liked that, but it seemed a little cheesy. It worked well enough, but it wasn't perfect. I'm usually really particular about love stories, and while this movie is no exception, I can tell you that it wasn't horrible.

The action is exhilarating. There's a great explosion, and the chase scenes are simply amazing. No question about that. The part with the Terminator stripped down to his skeleton is a bit cheesy, but some creative and clever direction make it work well enough. Even then, there's no substitute for this movie's amazing gun fights.

This movie was truly a classic. It has nearly all of it, and makes a great movie to watch any time. It has a
couple of flaws, but I'm honestly willing to look past them. The movie doesn't exactly sing, but it's basically perfect, and has earned a wonderful place in my collection. A great movie, with great actors, and wonderful action. Not to mention some marvelous writing and direction from James Cameron.
Like, seriously, DC has put out some of the best animated films of all time, and every time I see a new one, I get reasonably excited. Superman doesn't kill. It's as simple as that. He doesn't view himself as above the law, so he doesn't break it. But when he teams up with some new, famous, "heroes" that don't think he goes far enough, he has to reevaluate his morals, and discover how far he'd go to save the world.

Okay, alright. That's not a bad idea. I like the idea of Superman putting his foot down when it comes to killing. After all of the New 52 stuff, it's nice to see a decent Superman. But that's all Superman really was. Decent. There was nothing special about him, nothing that really stood out. He was just... Superman. That's not a bad thing, but I feel like you need to do a bit more than give us a stereotypical Superman. I guess that's a nitpick, but there was nothing special about him. He just felt like another character. Oh well, I won't count the movie off for that.

The movie had some really good voice actors. George Newbern voiced Superman. He did a good job... I guess. Pauley Perrette voiced Lois Lane, and we all know that she's a decent actress. But I think the shining star of this movie, was Paul Eiding as Pa Kent. I love that voice actor, and he does a great job with everything. Even though he was only in the movie for a brief few minutes, he might have made the movie worth it.

Lois Lane was annoying. That's the best way I can put it. Everything she said was a put down. I liked her character, honestly, only a few times during the movie. She didn't feel like what Lois Lane should. Honestly, I feel like the writers of this movie didn't know much about Superman.

Manchester Black was pretty cool. He wants to clean up the Earth, but he's not afraid to kill to do it. He was just a really cool character, and he had some really cool powers. The whole Elite team was actually written well. Each one was kinda cool in their own way, but there was no real chemistry between them. It was a cartoon, sure, but there should have been SOME kind of dynamic between them.

The animation wasn't bad. I mean, it was... there. There was really nothing special about it, but it was by no means bad. The fighting and action sequences were actually quite good. I enjoyed watching the movies for those, but not for much more.

The ultimate good thing about the movie was the question it asks. Is it right to kill? Is it okay to kill for the sake of others? I think there's a real lesson there. The problem is, the movie never answers that question, really. But is that a problem? I think the answer is up to you. Would Superman be justified in killing someone who would undoubtedly end countless lives in the future? That's the best part about this film. It doesn't ask itself the question, it asks YOU.
This review was brief, because there's really not much to say. There's some cool stuff in the movie, but that stuff is continually weighed down. Everything else is, honestly, completely mediocre. It's a disappointing addition to the DCAU, and had much more potential. This movie wasn't bad, but it was nothing special. Sorry, Superman.

Final Score: 3/5 or 60%
I wrote this review while I was sick, so sorry for the lack of detail. But I wanted to get it done while the movie was still fresh in my mind. Anyway, what's you're favorite DCAU film so far? Mine's Batman: Under the Red Hood, but what's yours? Superman Returns. The man of steel spent twenty years away from the big screen, but was never really far away. Bryan Singer brings us a more emotional, and less campy movie, but still ties it to the first two, while ignoring the events of the third and fourth. Thank God it ignored the fourth. But it brings us an entirely new cast, and something completely new compared to the movies we all know and love. Just want to let you guys know that there IS a spoiler in here. I'll let you know when we get to it, but be careful while you read if you haven't seen the movie.

Basic plot: astronomers find the distant remains of Krypton, Superman's home world, and he disappears for five years hoping to find it. Then he... returns... thus the title.

First off, the casting. Brandon Routh was an excellent Superman. Was he as good as Christopher Reeve? No, not at all, but he was still an amazing actor, and I believe would be any body's second choice to play Superman. In today's day and age, I don't think there's a better choice. His performance as Clark Kent was just as good, and he really captured the magical character of Clark that was left for someone else 26 years ago. It was so funny, and great to watch.

Kate Bosworth is a great actress, and I think that her interpretation of Lois Lane was phenomenal. I really enjoyed her character, and I think she was exactly how Lois should be. She was hot, she was prone to getting into trouble, and she still had a thing for Superman.

Lex Luthor is the epitome of powerless villains. Smart, calculated , and a true threat to even Superman... Gene Hackman was none of that. One of the greatest villains of all time was reduced to barely more than comic relief, and it was one of the biggest flaws of the original movies. Really, one of the only flaws. Kevin Spacey was a step in the right direction. He still wasn't the Lex Luthor of the comics, but he really couldn't be, considering the fact that this movie IS a continuation of the same story. But you can tell that at least an attempt was made.

This movie's writing was incredible. It was filled with raw emotion and great, humerus, dialogue. Every time someone said something I was hanging on to every word.

The action was exhilarating, spectacular, and always a pleasure to watch. And honestly, this movie had just the right amount of it. No senseless violence, or huge explosions that take up the whole film. This movie focuses on it's heart, something every movie should do. It gives it's characters room to breathe, and develop into something great. Action tends to get in the way of that, but in this movie, we get the perfect amount of both.
I've got to admit, I'm a sucker for romance, and this movie was no exception. The love story between Superman and Lois was beautiful, and one of my favorite scenes was their flight together. A little more realistic than the first, and just a pleasure to watch. It makes you feel heartbroken, it makes you feel for Superman. It helps you realize that beneath all the powers, he's just like you and me. His heart, is still vulnerable.

Possibly the best part about this film, is Bryan Singer's breathtaking direction. He might be my favorite director right now, and it's mostly because of this movie. NEVER have I been blown away by a movie's direction since, maybe Jaws, or Terminator 2. It just doesn't get any better than the way Singer put this film together, and I don't think we'll get a better directed Superman film in a long time.
This is the spoiler paragraph, so I would suggest that if you have not seen the movie, skip down to the last one. Well, of course, the big thing a lot of people tend to have a problem with is the way the movie ended. He's on an island, filled with kryptonite by Lex Luthor that could wipe out the united states. Despite the fact that he can barely stay awake next to kryptonite, he lifts this entire MASSIVE island out of the ocean and into space. I understand the complaint, and while I do see it as a bit much, I don't think it's TOO much. I personally think it's a beautiful way of demonstrating that his love for humanity overcomes even his greatest weakness. Besides, it's not like he did it flawlessly. He literally DIED afterward. He was resuscitated, but his heart stopped. I do believe it worked wonderfully. Batman said it best in the comics. "Superman's greatest superpower isn't his strength, or his ability to fly. It's not his heat vision, or the fact that he's nearly invulnerable. His greatest super power is his heart. And his love for others, above himself."

This is a wonderful movie. I wasn't a huge Superman fan before, but this movie made me one. It's emotional depth captures me every time I watch it, and as everyone knows, I love it when there's a true heart in a movie. I love the action, but it never gets in the way. And flawless performances from EVERYONE in this movie helps even more. All of this is topped off by Singer's perfect direction, and gives this movie a perfect rating.
Not only has DC announced that they're giving The Flash his own movie, he's also getting his own series on the CW. Am I in Heaven? Because I'm pretty sure this is what Heaven is like.

In season 2 of Arrow, writer Greg Berlanti will be introducing Barry Allen, better known as The Flash, in hopes of establishing an origin story that will lead to his own spin-off series. Apparently, this is all an attempt to bring superpowers, and metarealism, into the so far very down to earth and realistic series. Finally, DC is getting their act together.

This is a great idea for a few reasons. But the biggest is that Barry Allen is probably the most realistic of the super powered characters. Berlanti has said that the whole plan is to bring Barry in so that powers can be introduced, and Barry is undoubtedly the best character to use. He's not an alien, he's not an inter-galactic space guardian, he's not from a mythical island inhabited only by women, he was born and raised in the United States, and was given powers by chance. Even past the powers, he's still a very down to earth character.

I like Arrow... mostly. The biggest problem is the writing. The dialogue feels like a soap opera, and the guy behind it is, of course, Berlanti. You may also know him as the guy who wrote Green Lantern... yeah. Bottom line, this guy can be a decent writer, but he just doesn't try. Not only does he have to deal with Arrow, and the new Flash series, but he must also take on The Flash. That doesn't really sound like a formula for putting your heart into what you write. I'm not sure what DC is thinking on this, but they need to hire at least one more guy. I mean, really, JUST Berlanti?

DC seems to think The Flash is their best bet to get some new fans. It's smart, and I'm thrilled, but I'm concerned that Berlanti simply has too much on his plate. If you remember, The Flash had his own TV series in 1990, so this'll be his first time back on the small screen in more than 20 years. Please, Berlanti. I, and all other Flash fans beg of you, don't mess this up.

You guys excited? What do you think about DC using The Flash to really build a universe? Let me know in the comments, and I'll see ya next time!
We've known for a while now that Joss Whedon is adding this brother-sister duo to the Avengers roster. I'm psyched, but I'm still concerned over the casting. Too soon to say how this'll turn out.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been rumored to be playing Quicksilver in the upcoming Avengers sequel. Most people are pretty confident that he'll be getting the role, but it's too soon to know for sure. I've honestly never seen anything with him in a major role, so I know next to nothing about him. I have faith in Whedon, though, and I'm sure he knows what he's doing.
I'm a fan of speed powers in general. I have been ever since I was little, and got into the Flash, but I've never been a particularly huge fan of Quicksilver. I think if this gives us some great speed effects that could lead into possible Flash movie effects, then I'm all for it. But unless Whedon suddenly casts Nick Cage as Quicksilver, I'm not too worried about how his character turns out.
She's probably one of my favorite female characters in the Marvel universe, and I'm ridiculously stoked that she's in this movie. But the question stands as to who will make the best choice to play her? I have no clue, but this had better be done right. Wanda Maximoff is a very fascinating and emotionally involved character, so the actress must be ready to deliver a stellar performance. I'm not quite sure how that'll turn out, but again, I have faith in Whedon, who certainly knows how to develop characters.

I always have loved the dynamic between these two characters. And if Whedon does it right, and finds the right actors, we'll be in good shape. Imagine the protective twins going up against the Avengers to finally join forces by the end of the film. And to calm the fears of those out there who think that they'll be bad guys in the film, I highly doubt that. They're highly protective of each other, so it only makes sense that they would be cautious of the Avengers at first. Heck, the Avengers practically hated each other for the first half of the first movie. I imagine this atmosphere won't be too different, perhaps just a bit more severe.

Well, I'm excited, but what about you guys? How do you feel about adding these characters to the Universe? Let me know in the comments. DC with a plan. I never thought I'd see the day. I've been saying for a long time that DC needs to stop, and

understand that they aren't going to get ahead of Marvel over night. They finally took a step back, and made a plan. And for me, they couldn't have done it any better.

DC announced at Comic Con that they're currently planning to release a Flash movie in 2016, and a JL movie in 2017. My perfect world is still perfect. First, let's talk about the Flash.

The Flash is tied with Spider-Man as my favorite Superhero, and I was starting to worry that he may never get his own movie. Finally, it's happening. I simply can't wait to see my favorite hero on the big screen, and I'm mostly disappointed that I have to wait three years for it. Details are still pretty scarce, but my biggest hope right now, is that they use Barry Allen as the Flash. He's my favorite, but the over all fan favorite seems to be Wally West. The problem is, if you skip strait to Wally, you miss out on a lot of interesting interactions, and family dynamics. Wally started out as Kid Flash. Here's my plan, so listen up DC.

Give The Flash his stand alone movie as Barry Allen, then bring us an amazing Justice League movie. Reboot Green Lantern, (not a requirement, but if you don't some fans will be very angry) make a Wonder Woman movie, then a Flash sequel. But in this movie, bring in Wally West. Wally is Iris West Allen's (Barry's girlfriend, and eventual wife) nephew, so he'd be easy to introduce, and give him similar powers in this movie. Let Barry kinda bring him up, and let him become Kid Flash by the end of the movie. For the JL sequel, adapt Crisis on Infinite Earths, an amazing story line. It's a well known fact that Barry "dies" at the end of the story, so let him. As big a fan as I am of Barry, I also love Wally, so give us a third Flash movie after this one, where Wally takes up the mantel of The Flash. We get both characters that way, and everyone will be happy. There's your blueprint, DC. Get to work!

I'm not sure how a Justice League movie will turn out at this point, but I'm sure it'll be great. It's safe to assume it'll have the Cavill Superman, the new Batman, along with the Flash. And I'll say that most likely that we'll be getting Wonder Woman in some shape or form. But it's too soon to know for sure what DC is going to do. As long as DC remembers to take good care of their characters, everything'll be alright.

Are you ready for these movies? Or do you think DC Still doesn't have a solid plan? Let me know in the comments. See ya next time!

Man of Steel 2 WILL have Batman. Dude, I'm pretty sure this is what it feels like to live in a perfect world.

So, what do we know? We know that this IS the sequel to Man of Steel, so the original cast will be returning for this movie, and that Batman will be in the movie. We're also 99% sure that it won't be Nolan's Batman, because DC is currently saying that Nolan's universe is done, and over with. That's something I'm glad to hear. I would really hate for the realism, and perfection of the Nolan trilogy to possibly be ruined by something as extraordinary and meta-earth as Superman. Honestly, as people have been saying so much, the Nolan trilogy is completely and totally possible. It's buried in solid fact, and adding THAT Batman into a mix of Justice Leaguers, just wouldn't work. I would honestly hate that. I think it's a very smart idea to cast a new Batman. But who is the right choice? I personally have no clue.

I think it's a smart choice to bring Batman into the mix. It saves a TON of time, and now DC doesn't have to waste time on an origin story everybody knows. I'm sure they'll still touch on it. Maybe we'll get some flashbacks, or maybe a moment where Batman opens up to Superman about his past. Either one would work fine for me.

The real question, is if Batman and Superman are supposed to start off as enemies, how will they fight? Superman is obviously way stronger than Batman, and Batman has yet to receive any kryptonite, then how are they supposed to fight? I really hope Batman doesn't end up with that giant suit thing he used in The Dark Knight Returns. It's a great story, but I never liked the idea. And used in a movie, I don't think it would work.

Either way, I love both characters, and the first Man of Steel was good enough, so I'm really looking forward to this movie. I honestly believe that it's going to be better than the first, and as far as this new Batman, he better do a good job. It sure is nice to see DC with a plan.

What could go wrong? Right? A superhero movie with an interesting premise, an amazing director, and an equally good leading man. I had heard very different opinions on the movie, and wasn't sure at all how this movie was going to turn out. Well, it... turned out...

As I said, this movie DID have an intriguing premise. Peyton Westlake (Neeson) gets blown up while trying to develop a new kind of skin. Skin that people can wear to cover up scars, birth defects, whatever. In theory, it could change the world. The only problem is that the skin is only stable for 99 minutes, before it completely melts. But it seems like all of that is gone when Peyton seems to go up in the lab explosion, and his fiance Julie Hastings, (Frances McDormand) is left to mourn. But actually, Peyton is still alive. He was found in a river where he was taken to a hospital, where there was no identification to be found. A John Doe, to the hospital. He is in so much pain, they had to perform a very experimental operation. Cut the portion of the Spine that sends pain signals to the brain. He no longer feels pain, but there are side effects. Adrenaline rushes through the body, giving him incredible strength. And because the body feels no physical pain, it manifests itself through emotions. The person will feel very lonely, and will be prone to fits of rage. And of course, he is still very badly scarred from the explosion. Peyton escapes from the hospital to exact revenge on the ones who did this to him, and bring justice to those like him. All the while, he is afraid that Julie will no longer love him, and hides himself from her, and the world.

As I said, I love that story. I think it's very intriguing, and can make for a very good movie. But the execution was just awful. The writing was really, REALLY bad. Even Liam Neeson couldn't make the writing any better. Oh man. It makes me cringe.

Liam Neeson did do a genuinely good job with what he was given. His performance was simply held back by this movie's ridiculously bad writing... which I feel like I'm going to be coming back to a lot. Hardly any of the other actors did a very good job, though. McDormand wasn't half bad, but it was really the only other one that stood out.

Liam Neeson goes around in this film with masks of skin, posing as other people. Okay, not a bad idea. And as much as it pains me to say this, a lot of this film's problem, it it's directing. Raimi tried to direct a horror film in the form of a superhero one, and it just didn't work. Several of the shots in this movie were honestly so bad they were laughable. It was like Raimi didn't know what to do with the movie's down time, so he just threw in random stuff, hoping that it would work. Oh, Sam. You're lucky you directed Spider-Man.

One thing I did like, was this movie's action sequences. While some of them were inconsistent, and made me feel like the movie ran out of budget, some of them were really good, and fun to watch. My favorite scenes of the film was the last one. (which couldn't come soon enough). They were fighting on top of an unfinished building, they were swingin' on cranes, and shooting bolts into each other. I was like, "This is completely unrealistic, but I am entertained." Yeah, the Helicopter blowing up was cool, but you just can't beat jumping from beam to beam.

I'm not sure how it happened, but this film had a real emotional weight. Seriously. I can't tell you how I felt this. But I did feel bad for Darkman by the end of this movie. He wants to love Julie, but can't because he's too ashamed of himself. Even though Julie repeatedly tells him that she loves him for what's inside, he just won't listen. I thought this was very sweet, and although I didn't cry, I probably would have if this movie would have had better writing. And if they had cut the scene out where Darkman is dancing like a monkey, with a weird hat on his head. Seriously, that scene took this movie down, like, two whole points.

This movie had an intriguing premise, but it was completely squandered by the overall lameness of the movie.
Neeson did a good job, but even HE doesn't help the movie. The only two things I really liked about this film, was the emotion, and the action, and even those weren't consistent. Overall, this movie just doesn't escape from it's horrible script, mediocre directing, mostly bad acting, and Darkman's monkey dancing. A reboot could prove interesting, but this one, although not a complete waste of time, is not worth your money. This movie almost falls into the so bad it's good range. But, being objective, I must give it what it deserves.

Final Score: 1.5/5 or 30%
credits. That's a warning. If you haven't seen the movie (or you're one of those people that leave right as the credits start to roll) then I would recommend against reading this. Of course, as always, if you just don't care, you're welcome to come right on in. So here we go!

So here's basically what happened. Wolverine walks through a metal detector when he notices metal things all around him begin to shake, and fly through the air. He knows immediately what's going on. He quickly reveals his claws and turns to strike down Magneto (Ian McKellen), but is stopped by the adamantium in his body, and Magneto's hand in the air. Wolverine inquires what he wants, and Magneto tells him out right that there's something that could destroy all of their kind. When Wolverine asks why he should believe him, he simply answers, "You wouldn't." And it's then that he notices that the room has stopped. Everyone in it has been frozen in time, and an old, familiar friend moves toward them in his wheel chair. Astonished, Wolverine Asks, "but how?" Professor X (Patrick Stewart) simply smiles and says, "As I once told you a long time ago, old friend; you're not the only one with gifts."

Woah. They finally made use of the last two scenes in The Last Stand. Which, heh, are arguably the two best in the film. I was always frustrated with the fact that they never did anything with those, but it looks like they finally have. But what does this mean?

Personally, I think it will lead into Days of Future Past which comes out next year. Which is awesome, for one thing because it makes The Wolverine relevant in the X-Men franchise. Not only is it a solo movie for Wolverine, it's a crucial part of the series.

Brian Singer is directing Days of Future past, and he once mentioned that he was going to "fix the problems caused by the third film." This lead many fans to believe that The Last Stand was simply going to be removed from the continuity. But The Wolverine is obviously a direct sequel to that movie. And if Days of Future Past is a direct sequel to The Wolverine, it means that The Last Stand is still, in fact, cannon. Which, is awesome. I would really hate for them to take the confusing route of reworking the story.

But the biggest thing I take away from this, is that Professor X is still alive, and Magneto still has his powers. I'm psyched for what Days of Future Past has in store, and can't wait until I'm sitting in the movie theater, for the first true X-Men movie in eight years.

So what did you think? Are you excited of Days of Future Past? Let me know in the comments. In his second solo outing, Wolverine goes to Japan, where a man offers to take his immortality away from him. But when it actually happens, Wolverine must push through his new found pain, as well as old, and protect what he cares about. Cool premise, right? Didn't know what to think of this when I saw the previews, but now that I've seen the movie, I've made up my mind.

First of all, as with any X-Men movie, Hugh Jackman is awesome. I mean, he IS Wolverine, and I don't think anyone doubts that. Going into this movie, one of my biggest fears is that the chemistry wouldn't be right. One of my favorite parts about the X-Men movies was seeing Wolverine interact with the others. It was very entertaining, and it's one of my favorite team atmospheres to date. I was afraid that without that, the movie would suffer. But it really didn't. While the chemistry wasn't the same (and no where near as good) it was still a pleasure to watch. The characters are cool, and there's plenty of good dialogue.

Now, about those characters. Hugh Jackman was amazing, of course. But the supporting cast was great as well. Tao Okamoto played Mariko, the girl Wolverine must protect, and she was pretty cool. I mean, she was no break out actor, but she was decent enough, and fit the role nicely. But my favorite new character was Yukio played by Rila Fukushima. She was a great actress, and her character was just cool. I actually kinda wish we could have got a bit more of her character, but it's really just a nitpick. I think she was my favorite new character. And the dialogue between her and Jackman was actually pretty fantastic. Whenever they were on screen together, I had to smile.

The writing was... well, the writing was there. I mean, it wasn't bad at all, but it was nothing special. The dialogue was pretty good, and the story was intriguing, so you really can't ask for much more. Not to mention the movie was actually really funny st times. Although, I'm still kind of confused on how he stopped healing, but was still able to use his claws. Then there's the fact that the adamantium didn't kill him, which it should have. Those are just minor things, but I'm still curious.

But I have to give props to the story. The whole idea that Wolverine is still Wolverine, even without his powers was really cool. I honestly couldn't think of a better story to tell, in a solo project.

The directing was very good. I don't think we really got anything new with it, but it was still nice overall. I
really liked most of the action sequences. My biggest problem with them was the stupid jitter cam. That was kinda ridiculous in the first few action sequences, but the rest of them were very well directed.

I can't really stress enough the image Hugh Jackman put on the screen. He was BORN to play Wolverine, and it really shows in this movie. He was badass at times, he was really funny at times. I mean seriously, this movie made me laugh out loud a lot. I thought that was pretty cool considering the movies overall dark tone. If a movie can keep that tone and still make me laugh, then I know something was done right.

Kinda the main villain up until the very end of the movie is Viper, played by Svetlana Khodchenkova. Seriously, it's names like that that make me glad I don't do video reviews. Anyway, I think the actress (because that's easier to type) did a decent enough job with the role she was given, but the character of Viper was just annoying. She was hot, but she was annoying. She talked like a teenage girl, and I felt like the writers just turned off their brains when they were writing her lines. Like, everyone's dialogue was good, except for hers. I honestly rolled my eyes every time she showed up after the first half hour.

Also, Famke Janssen is in this movie. I was excited at first, but I was just disappointed. She appears to
Wolverine in his dreams, and visions, and she shows up regularly throughout the movie. That being said, I love the character of Jean Grey in the first two movies. She's a hero, and she deserves to be. So the fact that they basically showed her as an antagonist in the movie really bothered me. She blames him for being dead and gone. And while I understand that she wasn't real, only a figment of his imagination, but it still bothered me. It worked well for the movie, in that she basically represented his inner demons, but I still think her character deserves more than what she got in the last two movies.
All in all, this is a very good movie. It's probably my fourth favorite, behind X2, First Class, and X-Men. But considering that I loved all three of those movies, it would be extremely hard to beat them. I'm going to give it a 4/5, because it's a good time with a great story, great characters, great action, and fun dialogue. But it gets weighed down by several small things, and several things that I just found "okay." If you're an X-Men fan, you'll like it. And if you're an action movie fan, you'll like it too. So I encourage you to go out and see this movie. You won't be disappointed.

Final Score: 4/5
So what's your favorite X-Men movie? Let me know in the comments. See ya next time!Tristan Lanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17216750468965752348noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7634369430081059357.post-70114245267589790712013-07-25T16:43:00.001-07:002013-07-25T16:55:01.730-07:00RatingsI've been noticing that a lot of reviewers have a lot of different meanings for their ratings. In short, when someone says they give something a 3/5, it may be entirely different from what my 3/5 might be. So, I just thought I'd let you guys know exactly what I mean when I give something a certain rating. Plus, I'm a little bored, so why not?

0/5: You might never see this rating, simply because it means I found NOTHING good about the movie in question. This is one case where I wish I would have never seen the movie. I'm not sure I've ever seen a movie that I would give this rating, but who knows? It might come.

1/5: This rating basically means that I truly hated the movie. I found it bad, boring, bland, etc... I might have found a few good points in the movie, but only a few. And they were nothing substantial, as they barely bring the movie up at all.

1.5/5: This is just a step above the last one. It means something in the movie made me smile, but in general, I just didn't like it. Basically, I thought it was a bad movie.

2/5: This basically means I didn't find the movie a complete waste of time. I didn't like it, but it wasn't HORRIBLE. It certainly could have been worse.

2.5/5: This rating implies that I don't care either way about the movie. There were good things, and there were bad things, and they basically cancelled each other out. And in the end, I really have no opinion about
the movie.

That's basically what this means. There were several things that weigh the movie down, but it wasn't half bad.

3.5/5: It was a good movie. I enjoyed it. It was certainly not without it's flaws, but it was worth watching, and a good time.

4/5: This was a movie that I truly liked. It had a couple of things I wish could have been corrected, but they don't interfere with the movie all that much. I would buy this movie in a heartbeat, and It's definitely a movie worth watching several times.

4.5/5: This is basically the perfect movie. Any problems don't really interfere with the movie rating, and it's a movie I truly love. I probably already own the movie I've given this rating, and if I don't, then it's safe to assume that I'm hunting for it.

5/5: This means that not only did I find this movie perfect, but it went above and beyond the call of duty. It wasn't just amazing, it was magical. That's what gives a movie a perfect rating. It has to be even more than perfect. And most likely, I would call one of these movies, one of my all time favorites.

I don't know what the point of that was. But I figure it'd be good to have. If not for you guys, then for me. Now I have a rubric, and it might come in handy. So what's your rating system? How do you view movies? Let me know in the comments! I was going to make the first one a movie that I held near and dear to my heart, but since I just watched this movie yesterday, I figured I should go ahead and review it while it was still fresh in my mind. Several of these will contain spoilers, but this one will be spoiler free, so feel free to read and enjoy.

A sequel/spin off of Daredevil, Elktra Nachios (Jennifer Garner) was able to survive the events of Daredevil, and live to fight another day. Since then, she's become a mercenary. Killing people to make a living, and she doesn't care who they are or what they did to make someone hate them. But one family changes her point of view, and causes her to rethink what's right and wrong. She must even face what could be her greatest enemy, herself.

When I first began watching this movie, I didn't have high expectations. I wasn't THAT big a fan of Daredevil, and I didn't see how this movie even could be any better. All of the reviews I'd seen said the movie was terrible, and I'd heard people who I really trust say it was terrible. I figured going in that I wouldn't like it, but I have a strong belief that every movie is at least worth watching once, even if it's just to say you've seen it. So, I put in the movie, and I turned my brain off

It wasn't too long before I realized that I didn't have to do that. I wasn't the biggest fan of Daredevil, but I remembered my favorite thing about the movie. Elektra. But I also found some other really cool characters in this movie. Kirsten Prout played Abby Miller, a young girl with some decent fighting skills of her own, who Elektra sees a lot of herself in. Mark Miller (Goran Visnjic) is her father, and Elektra has been sent to kill them both. But when she becomes attached to these two, she can't bring herself to do it. I personally loved that. The Elektra that we got in the comics seemed to lack humanity, but this one didn't. She was obviously scarred by her past, but she was still a human being.

Not only can she not kill them, but they are still being hunted by others. So, she goes from assassin, to protector and she really isn't sure why. I thought this whole plot was very intriguing. And I thoroughly enjoyed that plot line.

Another thing I enjoyed, was the direction. Rob Bowman did a great job directing the movie, but he really shined during the fight scenes. They were extremely well constructed, and very fun to watch. It certainly was no Avengers in terms of action, but it was very entertaining. And Elektra's "powers" were very well demonstrated. The way she could see into the future, and into the next room was awesome. I loved seeing that, and it was very well done.
And can I just say for one second that Terence Stamp is awesome in everything? He played Stick, one of Elektra's instructors, in this film and I loved his character. Every time he came on screen I had to smile. He was just awesome.

Elektra's relationship with Abby was really nice to see. Abby was a decent character, and you could see that Elektra really cared about her. The best part about that, is the conflict that arises. She knows that she's not supposed to care, but she can't stop herself. Very touching, and really helped develop her character.

Honestly, my favorite part of this movie was my favorite part in Daredevil. Elektra. Jennifer Garner does an amazing job with this role, and you can really see how much she cares about this character. She's a good actress, and I can't think of many other people who would fit the role that she pulled off. Her character was great and full of depth. Although the character development wasn't perfect, she showed plenty of it. As well as plenty of emotion. No spoilers here, but toward the end of the movie, she says, "I can't lose you, I just found you." That line gave me chills, and reiterated the fact that Elektra was not lifeless. I can't express how much I really appreciated that. And yes, Jennifer Garner is extremely hot. You can count that, as a pro.

All good things must come to an end, and this movie was not without it's flaws. I think most of them existed in the writing. The film wasn't very well written to be totally honest, but it wasn't horrible. Considering all the Superhero films that were poorly written, I think we can say that it wasn't all that bad. But it was one thing that really held the film back.

Another problem I had with the movie was that It didn't really feel like a superhero movie. It really did feel like a kung-fu action movie. I think it succeeded at that purpose, but Elektra is a comic book character, so I felt like she deserved to be treated like one. A nitpick perhaps, but it really did bother me.

This movie could also be really... weird. There were times I really didn't know what to think of what was going on. Another flaw in the writing I think, but still a flaw. There are times this movie feels very realistic, which I like, then goes on to start bringing weird magic stuff into the picture, along with ancient legends and crap like that. I get tired of it. And I really didn't like that aspect. I felt like the movie tried too hard to be two different things, but didn't really succeed. I loved the points when it seemed realistic. I would sit back and say to myself, "Yeah, this is a good movie." Then the weird aspect would show up, and I'd say to myself, "...Wut?" That was probably my biggest flaw with the film.

Honestly, I think my problems with the film are everyone's, they just don't bother me as much as they do other people. Garner's flawless performance and some great action along with a true emotion make this film fun. It's certainly no masterpiece, but It's fun. I enjoyed this movie, and I can certainly see why a lot of people don't, but I think if you take the time to look past the crap, and see that at the heart of this movie is something truly great, you might even find yourself liking it. I'm going to give this one a solid score of 3.5/5, or 70%. I think you should watch it, there's plenty of fun, and a lot of heart.

So what did you think? Do you agree with me, or do you think the bad part of this movie weighs it down too much? Let me know in the comments, and I'll see ya next time.
Read on to find out.

Hey guys. So, as most of you who have been viewing the site already know, I don't review every movie that comes out. Sorry, but money's tight. I'd love to go see every movie that comes out, but I just don't have the time or money to do so. Therefore, I am going to be changing the way I run the site. I've noticed that I don't go see every action movie, or every comedy, (although I love both genres) But I HAVE noticed that I go to see every Comic Book movie that comes out. Anyway, that's what this is about. I'm going to be changing the site to a comic book movie reviews, and news site. That doesn't mean that I won't be reviewing anything else, I might very well review R.I.P.D next week. You just never know. It just means that I will be shifting the focus of the site from movies in general, to comic book movies. I hope you guys like the change.

Also, one more thing, I'm going to very soon start a process of something I call "Retro Reviews." These will be reviews of movies one year or older, and may be ANY genre of movie. They WILL contain spoilers, so read at your own risk. I'm looking forward to it, and I hope you guys still keep up with my site. To those very few who do, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

What do you think of this change? Let me know in the comments. I'll see you around!Tristan Lanehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17216750468965752348noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7634369430081059357.post-77657266782920138212013-07-15T19:28:00.000-07:002013-07-16T18:57:25.816-07:00Top Ten: Best Comic Book MoviesWell guys, The Wolverine is just around the corner, and I'm super excited. Comic book movies have always been one of my favorite genres. And with even more on their way with the Avengers phase two, and the possibility of a Justice League movie, the popularity has never been greater. Like anyone else, I have movies I like more than others, so here is my top ten list, for comic book movies.

It should be noted that I haven't seen every comic book movie out there, so there's no way of knowing if there might be one or two others that would be on this list, if I'd seen it. Also, this IS a top ten list. There are many movies that I love, that just couldn't be on there. So, with that said, here are a few honorable mentions:

X-Men: First Class

The Dark Knight

The Amazing Spider-Man

Captain America: The First Avenger

X-Men

Iron Man

Batman

And now... For the list.

Number 10- Superman 2

Every time I watch this movie, I find myself not liking it. It just seems weird and out of the ordinary. I mean, the direction is great, and the writing is nearly as good, there's just something that bothers me each time. But when I finish the movie, and recall what I've just seen, all I can remember is the amazing Christopher Reeve. He is, and always will be, the perfect Superman. What makes me love this movie is it's magic. And I'm not completely sure there are any other movies that have the same amount of cinema magic as this one does. Margot Kidder, and the incredible Christopher Reeve give that to us in ways I just can't forget. You can't help but finish this movie, look back on it, and smile.

Number Nine- Iron Man 3

Robert Downy Junior is ridiculously awesome. I think, even though we saw this in the first two Iron Man movies, he proved it in this one.

Tony Stark is always written well, and acted even better. But what made this movie amazing, was it's "coming of age" for Tony. He starts off paranoid, and distraught over the events of New York, and meets a kid who helps him to realize who he really is. That makes this movie more enjoyable than most. All the acting was a pleasure to watch. We had Kingsley, and an amazing bad guy, Guy Pearce. But, as always, it's Robert Downy Junior that takes the cake. But the action was incredible as well. This may be one movie that gets on this list, largely for it's action.

Number Eight- The Dark Knight Rises

This movie was one of the most powerful on this list. Batman/Bruce Wayne must confront his past, and deal with the fact that he CAN save his city, but that it will destroy him. And there's no way out of it. That's what made this movie so amazing. There's so much weight in this film, that most definitely hits you. That's not all this movie has going for it, of course, it has Tom Hardy as Bane. And he was certainly my favorite interpretation of the character. Bale was great as ever, but I think the shining star of this film was Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. She was badass, she was sexy, and she did a genuinely good job with the role. Her character was one of the most interesting of the entire series, and it was great seeing her interact with Bale. This movie brings the Nolan trilogy, to a fantastic end.

Number Seven- Thor

I never, in a million years, would have thought this movie would be on this list. I never expected to even like Thor, when it first came out, because I was never a Thor fan. This movie changed my mind. It actually became my favorite pre-Avengers film. Stellar performances from Hemsworth, Hiddleston (what a great villain) and Portman make this movie something great, but it's also one of the most well written films on this list. Not to mention the whole concept of "magic is just technology we don't understand," just astounded me. The film is powerful, amazing, and deserves to be on this list. Just goes to show that I get proven wrong plenty of times. This is one time in which I'm very proud of that.

Spider-Man might be my favorite Superhero... ever. So it's no surprise this movie is on my list. This movie is really great at everything. It's well written, well acted, and incredibly directed. Some of the action sequences in this movie are some of the best Hollywood has ever given us. What really sells this movie for me, isn't Spider-Man, though, It's Peter Parker, played by Tobey Maguire. He's the most human of any superhero, and you see that through all of his struggles and hardships he must deal with in his life. He's just like any other guy. He has heartaches, he has money troubles, but he has super powers. All of these reasons are reasons why I loved Spidey in the first place, and they were perfectly adapted to the big screen. Perfectly.

There's something special about this movie. Brian Singer brings us an amazing sequel led by Hugh Jackman. He was born to play Wolverine, and I loved that about this film. He was easily my favorite character. But that's not a decision without thinking, because what makes this movie incredible, is how much character development is woven into it. Each character is expanded upon, and taken care of in ways that no other Superhero film has done. It's one of the greatest team movies out there, because of it's characters, it's thrills, and of course, it's heart. And that, is what's special about this movie. Even though it's got plenty of thrills, it never forgets that what's most important in ANY movie, are it's characters.

All that needs to be said is that Liam Neeson is in this film. But beyond that, I love the way the origin story of Batman is told. We get plenty of focus on how Bruce Wayne finds his calling, and still plenty of Batman. Not many movies produce an origin story so efficiently, and I'm honestly a sucker for them. This is one of the best in that aspect. Of course Liam Neeson was amazing, he always is, but one person I didn't expect to be so awesome was Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes. The scene where she slaps Bruce, despite the fact that he's holding a gun, is one of my favorites and really helps show off her character. She wants to get things done in the perfectly portrayed Gotham. And she really doesn't care who, or what gets in her way. This movie also gave us one of the best lessons and lines of any film. "It's not who I am underneath, but what I do, that defines me."

Number Three- Superman Returns

I have little idea why I like this move so much. I know I'll probably get a lot of flack for this. One thing I can say, however, is that the direction of Brian Singer is amazing. It's one of my favorite things about this film. It's just beautiful. Brandon Routh is no Christopher Reeve, but he does an exceptional job, I love the character of Lois Lane, played by Kate Bosworth, in this movie, and I think Kevin Spacey is a better Lex Luthor than Gene Hackman. I think the writing is good, and I love the way climax ends. It shows that his love for humanity, overcomes even his greatest weakness. Not to mention the love story is just phenomenal. This movie just speaks to me. I'm not really sure why, but it does. Maybe its directing, maybe its acting, who knows? Either way, I still get chills every time I hear Superman say, "I'm always around."

Number Two- Spider-Man

A good portion for why I like this movie is nostalgia. This was probably the first live action comic book movie I ever watched, and I loved it. Every single actor in this movie did an amazing job. And I felt it was a nearly perfect interpretation of my favorite Superhero, and Peter Parker. I love origin stories, and this one is another one to get it right. Willem DaFoe is a great villain and Goblin, and even Kirsten Dunst did a good job. That's rare, my friends. Most people tend to say that Spider-Man 2 is the best of the series, and while I'm inclined to agree, the magic of this movie won't let me do it. I just love this movie, and I don't feel like I need reasoning when something is this near and dear to my heart. A simple masterpiece.

Number One- The Avengers

I don't think it's any surprise to anyone that this is here. I can't remember the last time I went to the movie theater and had such a good time. Laughed so hard, nearly cried (okay, I cried), and felt so satisfied leaving that place. It's my favorite because it combined everything I loved about all of the other movies on this list, into one movie. I loved the team atmosphere, the emotion, the acting, the simply incredible writing, and of course, the action. No one could have handled this movie better than Joss Whedon, and no one could have played better avengers than Robert Downy Junior, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Chris Hemsworth. Despite their minor roles, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson did just as good of a job. This film had a perfect villain in Tom Hiddleston, and some of the best writing I've EVER seen. This movie does everything it's supposed to do and more. This is easily one of my favorite films of all time, and always leaves me with a smile on my face.

I love comic book movies. It might be my favorite movie genre, simply because of my childhood. And now, they're better than ever. With The Wolverine less than two weeks away, and Thor: The Dark World coming right after that, there's no telling how many films might end up on this list sooner than you think. So what's your top ten? And what makes you think that? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time!

The previews made this movie look like something
really cool, action pact and well acted. But did it live up to my expectations? Was it as good as I was hoping? Well...

The west is wild. And in a world where Law and Order has become almost impossible to find, someone must step up, and fight for what's right. That person is The Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer). In this film, he must over come his pacifist ideals, and fight for what he loves. Even if he has to wear a mask to do that.

The first scene in this movie takes place in 1933. A young boy meets an Indian who claims to be Tonto (Johnny Depp). Throughout the movie, the story is told by this guy... Okay... It really does nothing for the story, and I'm not sure what the idea was behind this. There's nothing interesting through this, and it just adds to the movies already ridiculous length.

I have to say, this movie has an incredible pair of leads. Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer are truly amazing in what they do. They have a chemistry that is almost unrivaled in movies today, and watching them interact on screen together was a pleasure. The humor in this movie was top notch. Both actors were hilarious, and watching them together was simply great. Those things alone carry this movie.

There was also some really good character development. Seeing the past of Tonto was really cool. You really feel for him, and get an emotional connection with his character I liked that. Although it's true that Armie Hammer did a magnificent job, it was Johnny Depp, who stole the show.

William Fichtner is in this movie... yeah. I mean, he did a good job with the role, but his character was completely unlikable, and unappealing. I didn't like the way he was written. Ruth Wilson was the leading lady. She did a fair job all considering. I'm not really sure how much she did for the film, but she was a decent character.

The score for this movie was actually amazing. I really enjoyed hearing the music that went along with the action sequences, and the graver moments.

The action sequences... good lord. These were so over the top and ridiculous, it took me out of the movie. I'm not usually one to complain about action being unrealistic, but this time, it was. And for that reason, it was hardly entertaining. There were a few instances in which I felt were very funny, but still over the top, so I really couldn't take them all that seriously.

And of course, there's this movie's length. I don't mind long movies at all. But when the plot simply repeats itself for an hour and 45 minutes... it gets boring. The humor made this movie watchable, but it's only toward the end of this movie that the Lone Ranger finally accepts that he must fight. I mean, seriously, he goes on for most of the movie not believing in guns or violence, and it gets annoying. Every 15 minutes or so, he goes on another speech about why it's bad to fight, and why guns are bad. It's about two hours into the movie when he finally says that he was wrong, and he needs to fight. I'm pretty sure everybody agrees, that this would have been better discovered an hour ago. Then maybe we wouldn't have been so bored.

So, yes, although this movie is really funny, and Johnny Depp is amazing, this movie was weighed down considerably by it's length, and ridiculous action sequences. I did enjoy it a bit, but don't go see this movie for eight bucks. I'm going to give it a 3/5. No where near great, but not terrible. If 2.5/5 means I don't care one way or the other about the movie, I'd say this is just barely enough above that to make 3.

Have you seen the movie? Do you agree that the length just doesn't suit it? Let me know in the comments! See you next time!
I promised this would come, and now, here it is. There were a lot of spoilers in this

movie, so I wanted to talk about them. That should serve as a warning. DO NOT read this if you have not seen the movie. It WILL be full of spoilers and plot twist. Of course, if you just don't care, you're welcome, but read at your own risk. Anywho, let's talk spoilers!

So, This probably won't be all that long of a post because I mainly want to talk about the death of Kirk. We'll get to that later. First, I want to talk about the death of all those guys in the meeting room. I just wanted to mention how beautiful that scene was. Spock's mind meld was amazing. This, of course, paves the way for the adventure of the film.

And of course, Benedict Cumberbatch? Yeah, he's Khan. And he was AWESOME. I mean seriously, this guy was one of the best acting roles I've seen in a long time. He killed it... literally... but man was he cool. It gets me past the fact that he's not Hispanic. I know a lot of people are complaining about that, but honestly, it really doesn't bother me aside from the continuity error. I heard one person explain it like this: "In this movie, he starts out as John Harrison. That really isn't a name many Hispanic people would have. It wouldn't surprise me if in this future, changing one's race is possible." I'm not saying that's the official explanation, or even the one I'm buying. I'm saying there are explanations as to why he could be whiter than the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

The next big twist was when Robocop turned on Kirk. First of all, Peter Weller is simply awesome. He's a great actor who played a magnificent bad guy. In my opinion, he easily rivaled Khan. Too bad we won't see his character again. Either way, I'm not sure what more could have been done with him. I think ending his character was a good idea. But come on, it was a pretty cool twist having Carol Marcus (aka Hot Chick # 1) turn out to be his daughter. Then there was the awesome scene where Khan just snapped said hot chick's leg, then imploded Admiral Marcus's head. What an awesome scene.

Of course, Scotty left pretty early on in the movie, so I was afraid he wouldn't get much screen time. But he did, and his character was AWESOME. So hilarious, and just cool.

The way in which Spock tricked Khan into getting his crew back was so cool. When I saw it, it felt like the classic wittyness (a word?) of the original Star Trek series. Man. What a great way to end that. So clever, and even more nostalgic.

And of course, there's "the scene". Spock and Kirk's roles are reversed from the way they were in The Wrath of Khan, and Kirk is the one to die for his crew. A lot of people didn't like this, but I did. I thought it was a nice way to remind us, that this is not a reboot, but a continuation of the original movies. But at the same time, it shook things up. I thought the moment was beautiful, and full of great emotion and acting. It made for a great scene. It was actually Spock's "KHAN!!!!" that took me out of the movie for a second. I didn't care for that for some reason, but it didn't detract from the movie for me. Seeing Spock so overcome by emotion was interesting. He has never done that in any other interpretation, and I'm honestly still unsure what to make of that. It made a great plot to have the others try to evoke the Human half of Spock, and I liked that, I'm just not completely sure I agree with the decision as a Star Trek fan.

And of course, Kirk comes back from the dead at the end of this movie. I have a problem with anything that involves something like this. I think death should be something that cannot be defeated. And I get tired of people cheating death as if it means nothing. It's unrealistic, and I don't like it. This was my thought at first, but when I heard Bones say "You were barely dead," I felt better. It was similar to a defibrillator, or CPR. He was Resuscitated, not revived. I can live with that.

I gave this movie a 5/5, and I stand by that. Most of that comes from these spoilers, so I had to do this review too. So, if you saw the movie, what did you think of the spoilers? Which plot twist was your favorite? Let me know in the comments. See you next time!
I'm here now. Star Trek. I was a pretty big fan of
the first one, so I was really looking forward to this movie. And Star Trek: The Voyage Home, is one of my favorite movies of all time because of it's wit, and heart. If anything, I was hoping for that, in this movie. But did we get it?

Just a fair warning, this review will not contain any huge spoilers, however I will tell some non-essential things revealed in the movie. So read at your own risk.

At the very beginning of this movie, we find our cast on a planet that's doomed. In the midst of trying to save it, Spock must risk his life in order to protect this species. We see some good humor, and great character development in this scene. I loved this. When the scene was over, I wanted to see more of this light hearted action. It was a bit over the top, but I really didn't mind it so much because of the fact that it's a Star Trek movie. The original series, was one of the most over the top things on TV. It felt like Star Trek, and I loved that. As time goes on, we see our heroes investigate a tragedy. And huge loss brings them to the Klingon Home world of Kronos. This was a brilliantly directed scene. The imagery was just beautiful, and the ships, to the Klingons themselves looked incredible, and believable. It was great. As time goes on, they must face a new adversary, as well as another enemy that lies in their own ranks, and the possible destruction of their ship, The Enterprise, wait for them. If you want to know more about these things, check out my Spoilers review later on.
This film was brilliantly directed. The ships, the people, the planets, all looked incredible. I was blown away by the way each scene could take you on a journey. Whether it be one that's action packed, hilarious, or devastating. We see a lot of humor and wit. I just loved the way the cast interacted. Of course the way Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Kirk (Chris Pine) interacted was great, but each character had their own way of dealing with the rest of the crew. Uhura (Zoe Zaldana) and Spock were a couple in this movie, and I thought it was weird at first, but JJ Abrams somehow made it work. It was really funny, and I really felt for them. I guess it was a success. There was a new crew member on the Enterprise. Carol Marcus (Alice Eve), joined the ship as a science officer. I was kinda wary of this at first, because there were so many characters that had to be payed attention to. Somehow, there was more than enough character development. And she
Another one of my favorites was Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban). He was so funny and just awesome. Bones has always been one of my favorite Star Trek characters, and this guy did him justice. We also get a surprise visit from an old friend. But I'll let you see the movie to find out who that is.

Each character did an excellent job acting. But there was one person who stood out above the rest. Benedict
Cumberbatch as the main villain. He played one of the best bad guys I've seen in a long time. I was completely blown away by his emotion, and how evil he was. He did the character justice in a way I never thought could be done. An excellent bad guy, and a great actor.
I loved every one. I can't tell them all here, though. can tell you however that the last few scenes were filled with the quick thinking and acting that makes Star Trek what it is. It was incredible.
So if you want to see what I really think, check out my spoiler filled review.
I've got to say, I think this was my favorite movie I've seen this year. It blew me away visually,
through it's script, and acting. This movie has it all, and although I'm not sure I can say this is better than The Voyage Home, one of my favorite movies of all time, I can definitely and proudly give it my first 5/5. If you're a Star Trek fan, you'll love it. If you're not, you still will. So tell me what you think in the comments, and when you see the movie, be sure to check out my spoiler filled review, where part two of my review will be.
